December Artisan: The Thrifty Gifter
Hi! My name is Jenny Smith and I own The Thrifty Gifter. I have always been passionate about the arts! From music to hand-making, anything creative and I am in love. That being said, I truly never envisioned myself as a small business owner. I grew up thinking I would go into education, but ultimately graduated with a degree in sociology and psychology. After graduation, I kept my job as a early childhood TA waiting to see what I wanted to do when I "grew up". Between college and work, I had opened t.t.g. on Etsy and was stamping jewelry and crafting burlap prints in my spare time. Still, I never really had the courage to take it on as a full-time job. That was until 2011, when my daughter was born...
I dove head-first into Mommyhood and found that all I really wanted to do was to soak up every moment of her youth. So, I walked into work one day and gave my notice. And, just like that, a new chapter began. "Mommy" and The Thrifty Gifter became my full-time career.
My little online Etsy store blossomed into far more than I could have ever imagined. In 2017, after years of selling at handmade shows, hosting a craft market, and growing my brand, I opened a brick-and-mortar storefront in Little Washington, North Carolina called "The Wander Co."! It is a store dedicated entirely to handmade, small businesses from across North Carolina.
The journey has been a whirlwind. However, with the love and encouragement of my amazing daughter, family and friends, my ever-supportive boyfriend Steven, and incredible "wander women" tribe (Candace, Terri, and Melissa), I am blessed to have the opportunity to spend my days with my daughter while crafting, creating, and growing my little business.
